Wow, I’ve already been here for one week. In some ways it has flown by and in others it feels like Mercy and I have been together much longer. I really feel like we are bonding well and I’m starting to be able to tell what she wants/needs more. With her being sick, it’s difficult to know what are her normal behaviors and what is just because she does not feel well. So far, our biggest challenge is night time. Mercy does not sleep through the night. She wakes up every couple of hours. If you give her some milk she will go back to sleep. But it’s like having a newborn. I really am not complaining, but I will also admit that this is not my favorite part of parenting and never has been. I like sleep. Thankfully our schedule has been pretty relaxed. Tuesday I babysat the Howard kids all day so Beth and Jeremy could meet with the directors of a ministry they are interested in working with. We had a fun day and played lots of games. Today, Mercy and I took a long and much needed nap. Then the rains came… it rained and poured for hours, which was fitting as today is the first day of “rainy season” here. They do not have traditional seasons like we do…. just wet and dry seasons. A fellow adoptive mom and I wanted to go get the babies’ passport photos, so we waited until the rain died down. Then we headed off on our walk. I thought I got a lot of looks by myself walking around with Mercy… it more than doubled walking around with my friend and her son. So two mzungus with African babies walking down the road in the rain was quite the eyecatcher. We even had one man ask us if we would adopt him as well. The kids were not too excited about getting their photos done and it took much longer than expected because the power was out and they were using a generator, but we got it done. Then we decided to get a bite to eat on the way home. In case you are wondering, don’t order at a restaurant with no generator when the power is out and the coals for the charcoal cooker are wet. It took forever, but it was pretty tasty and only cost $5 for both of us, the kids, and 4 drinks. Right now Mercy and I are sitting in the dark and I’m hoping my computer doesn’t die while I’m writing this, but I thought I’d go ahead and type this up now, so it will be ready to post when the power returns.
Some prayer concerns… tomorrow (Thursday) Dr. Patrick and Mercy’s only known relative have to travel to Kampala so they’ll be ready for court on Friday morning. Pray for them to arrive safely and on time. Continue to pray for the hearing and for our judge. Also please pray for the other two families going to court with us. One of the families has been stuck in the process the entire year with the father having spent 6 months in Uganda earlier this year. It’s time for all of their family to be reunited. And please pray for the rest of the Busby clan at home. Avery is sick and I hate being away from my baby girl when she is not feeling well. This also complicates Cody’s life quite a bit more, and with me now being gone more than a week they are all starting to feel it more.
