I once dated a girl who told me I could have any kind of facial hair I wanted. Then I married that girl, and her tune changed. I can still have any kind of facial hair I want, it’s just that the longer the facial hair the fewer the kisses. Thus I am normally a happily clean-shaven man. In her absence I have maintained my clean face, until last week. I let it go a couple of days longer than normal and the girls asked me if I was growing a beard. I thought “Why not?” Then my friend Asa said, “Are you going to grow it until Melissa gets home?” And I thought “Why not?” And thus Mercy Beards was born. I have asked all men who desire to do so to show their solidarity by growing an awesome beard until the day that Melissa and Mercy land in Wichita. I have started a facebook group (Mercy Beards), and several guys at my church have stated their intention to sport their Mercy Beards. We are going to be a lumberjack looking group before too long.
A very manly Mercy Beard - Day 10
On another note, I would like to ask all of you to pray specifically for the completion of our adoption on Monday November 1st. As of now there is nothing special happening on that day. It’s just a good day to pray. If you have a Mercy shirt, wear it. If you have a Mercy Beard, sport it. And if you have breath, pray. Here is how you can intercede for us:
- That we would continue to see the lessons God is teaching us through this
- For endurance and patience
- For Emma and Avery to continue to handle this separation well
- For wisdom in our communications with the authorities
- For the Judge’s review of our case to come quickly
- For us to receive Mercy’s visa soon
