A laugh and a few plugs... Happy Sunday!

So, here’s your laugh for the day… In Uganda you do not ever wear your shoes inside the house. It is so dusty/muddy outside that it is just not an option. So, you either go barefoot or wear “house shoes”. House shoes are generally flip-flops that you wear only in the house and on the porch. So, I wear my fabulous 25-cent clearance hot pink flip flops from Target around the house. So this morning, our friends Simon and Kelly were going to pick me and Mercy up for church. I was the last one out of the house, so I had to lock up. This is no easy task. You have to lock the main doors, then the large metal gate just inside those doors which has 3 padlocks. Then you have to go to the backdoor, lock the metal gate there, and then lock it from the outside. (Man, I miss my garage door opener!!) So, I went ahead and did all of this a few minutes before I expected to get picked up. Just as I came around from the back, they were there. So, I grabbed my stuff from the porch and jumped in the car. Here’s the trouble… we get about half way there and I look down and I had on my hot pink house shoes. I was wearing a purple shirt and black skirt. So, I was not exactly color-coordinated. Simon offered to run me back to the house, but it would have taken too long, so I sucked it up and went. I’m sure it wasn’t too big of a deal to anyone else because Ugandans don’t quite have the same sense of matching that I do, but anyone who knows me well understands how hard this was for me. It did make for a good laugh and I smiled each time I looked down at my feet. There are a few pictures around, but not on my camera, so you’ll have to wait for those!

Here are a couple of plugs for you…

I am thinking of placing another order for “Love Mercy” t-shirts. I’ve had a couple of requests and I know my readership has grown a lot since the last order and the money would be helpful to us as we finish up this adoption. So if you are interested, please send me an email at melissabusby@hotmail.com . I will need at least 25 orders to make it worth my while. The shirts are $15 ($16 for XXL and XXXL). They are available from Child’s 2T-Adult XXXL and are a 50/50 blend. Payments can be made through PayPal or by sending me a personal check. The design on the shirt symbolizes how a relationship with Christ changes our hearts on the inside (white arrows) and therefore, changes our outward actions toward others (black arrows). The words come from the verse God gave me for this adoption, Micah 6:8,”This is what the Lord requires of you, that you act justly, love Mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”

If you are interested in donating towards the purchase of more Mama Kits, the time is now. I’d love to get more kits purchased by the end of the month. The NGO that I buy the kits from takes off for most of the month of December and the prices I pay are only guaranteed through the end of the year. So the more I can buy this month the better. Don’t worry, they have told me that I should be able to get the same price or very close starting in January, but just in case, I’d like to order more soon. If you need to make a tax-deductible donation you can do so by giving through Beth and Jeremy’s non-profit, “Love God and Love Others”. They’ve decided to add the Mercy Kits to their list of projects. Just make a donation on their website through PayPal and designate it for Mama Kits. Or if the tax deduction does not matter to you, you can still click on the PayPal link on the top right of this blog and donate that way. I’m excited to tell you that already I’ve heard about a couple of churches and preschools taking on Mama Kits as a service project and a few others have expressed interest. How exciting!

And if you are in the mood for Christmas shopping… I found a great way to get fabulous gifts and help out orphans. Check out this blog for information on “Home for the Holidays”. On her blog she’s compiled a list of tons of great things for sale from clothes, jewelry, art, and even laundry soap and the profits all go to help families fund their adoptions or for orphan care. There are some super cute things for sale… I may have to add a few of them to my Christmas list.
